Interview Coaching for Lawyers

Making Partner. Not Salaried Partner. Equity Partner.

Those magic words don’t mean much to people outside the legal profession, but to you…that title change when you lose the Associate or Senior Associate tag and you are made up to Equity Partner - that is life changing...

Helping Associates/Senior Associates become Partners

Becoming partner makes all those years of long nights and weekends worthwhile for you and your family.

But being made up to Partner is not a promotion. It means you are seen as a worthy CO-OWNER of the business. Able to feed yourself and your team and contribute to the size and quality of the pie. That you can become a rainmaker and profit sharer.

And the profits and rewards can be handsome - especially in the Magic Circle or Silver Circle.

Competitive pressure on PEP means that fewer people are getting the chance to sit in front of a Partner Panel and not all those who do, make it. Will you? Will your business case stack up?

You’ve read all the good advice and you have developed a good business and personal case, you’ve got an active Partner mentor, sponsor or advocate, some Partners may even recognise you, you’ve been hitting your numbers and clients sometimes ask for you by name. Some people even say that you’re “a good lawyer”. But is it good enough? Are you good enough?

You know the process to become a Partner, and you know that in the Partner interview panel there will be standard interview questions, behavioural and competency questions, you’ll have to prepare a presentation and answer technical questions.

But are you truly prepared and guaranteed to present you at your best and tell the best stories about you?

Do you want that golden call from your Managing Partner?

A man phoned me. He worked at a Magic Circle firm, and he knew and had done all those things. He thought it was maybe a year early, but his mentor Partner wanted him to go for it. So did his wife! After speaking with both of them, he called me, we discussed his situation and then spent some time working together in person. Then he had some homework to do, and we spent some time on the phone reviewing his work. Then the process started.

"After the vote on Saturday morning, I got a call from (the Managing Partner) on Saturday afternoon inviting me to join the partnership!
Which of course I accepted! It was an incredible feeling, with a flood of relief and excitement. I tried to keep calm on the phone and then popped the champagne straight after!
My wife and I both discussed on Saturday after we had the news how pleased we are that I spent a day with you and how I needed it to feel in control of the process. I met the partners who interviewed me for a drink yesterday and they said how strong my interview had been. I also wanted to say that the training has helped me enormously in other areas of the job as well. I will be passing your name on to next year's candidates...."

Have you spent some of the best years of your life working long nights and silly weekends? Do you now have the chance to persuade Partners that you are “good enough” to join them? Shouldn’t you give it your best shot? I can help you make sure you present your best personal and business case, prepare your answers and tell your best story when under pressure.

After all, this is potentially the most significant interview of your life, so get in touch.
