Everyone has had moments at work where they feel that there is too much to do and not enough time to do it. Being able to work more productively is not easy and takes some effort, but the advantages of being able to work better and more effectively outweigh the amount of effort required.

Some tips on how to work more productively:

Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise

The best way to not get overwhelmed at work is to work out what needs doing and by when. Spend five minutes every day and at the start of each week to decide which task is top priority, and which can be left.

Five minute rule

This is a concept where if you think a task will take less than five minutes to complete, do it there and then. Otherwise all of the small and quick jobs will build up to end up making it unworkable.

Plan communications

Have you ever got to the end of a work day and realise that there were phone calls you needed to make, or emails that needed to be sent? By setting aside a set period every day to send out communications, there are less chances of missing out on the important phone calls.

Group together related tasks

By grouping together tasks that are similar you can concentrate on one area or responsibility to the fullest, rather than have your mind switch between several different jobs. Grouping together tasks everyday can help you form a productive work routine.

Avoid multi-tasking

Doing one task well is better than doing a few badly. You may feel that at times that you need to do as much as you can all at once in order to get it all done on time. However, by focusing on one task at a time, you will be able to effectively do your job well.
