Here are some job hunting for over 50’s tips:
Clear cut CV
It may be tempting to list 30 years of experience on your CV to show that you have a significant amount of experience – but that could be boring. A clear and easy-to-read CV is more likely to stand out amongst a huge pile of them and may make it more likely for you to get an interview.
Age is an advantage
With age and experience in an industry comes knowledge, dedication, resilience, and other qualities that should be expressed during an interview and in your CV. Do not attempt to cover up your age or experience; instead, embrace it.
Update your look and online presence
Refresh your hairstyle, wardrobe, and social media profiles like LinkedIn to avoid giving the impression you are outdated or living in the past. First impressions matter, so present a modern, professional image.
Embrace technology
Social media is increasingly being used to find jobs, make new contacts, and research potential job candidates. Having strong and active LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook accounts can increase your chances of getting an interview or a job. “They” do check these things!
Drop the resentment
Some may find being interviewed by someone younger than them or with less experience degrading or embarrassing. This attitude should be left at the door during a job interview. Go into the interview with an open mind and a positive attitude.
Being overqualified
If you feel that you are overqualified for the job you are applying for, you should confront the issue head-on. Mention in your cover letter or during the interview how you wish to change direction in your career or your desire to work for that company.
